Metals & Machinery Cluster Liaison at Prosper Portland
Kevin Johnson is the Metals & Machinery Cluster liaison for Prosper Portland where he has worked since 2005. His primary responsibility is to support the retention, expansion and recruitment of advanced manufacturing firms to the region. Kevin is currently working on a project to stimulate innovation in Portland and Japan by bringing our start-ups together to participate in periodic events.
Prior to joining Prosper Portland, Kevin worked as a program manager for the Washington State Department of Trade where he oversaw the Japan and Korea programs and managed Washington’s offices in Tokyo, Japan and Seoul, Korea. Kevin is a graduate of Evergreen State College, completed a language program at Osaka University of Foreign Languages, and attended graduate school at Kobe University of Commerce.
While continuing to pursue trade, investment and increased cultural relations with Japan, last fall Prosper Portland began embarking on a new initiative focused on growing business and friendship relations with Japan. We started focusing on connecting our start-ups with Japan’s start-ups in everything from grassroots necessity items to high tech products. We also extended this effort to include artists and organizations that focus on social justice. There is much that we can learn from each other in these areas that we believe will result in increased creativity, innovation and better lives for people in both of our countries. My talk will focus on why we are doing this, how we intend to do it, and the importance of getting our regions electronics businesses involved.
