We’re thrilled to announce that Jamie Hyneman, special effects expert, co-host of MythBusters, inventor of the Sentry unmanned firefighting vehicle, and CEO of M5 Industries, will deliver the keynote address at NEDME 2026 on September 23 at the Wingspan Event & Conference Center in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Jamie spent 14 seasons on MythBusters putting conventional wisdom to the test through engineering, experimentation, and a relentless drive to understand how things work. But his work extends well beyond television. He invented the Sentry, a robotic firefighting vehicle designed to operate in conditions too dangerous for human crews. He holds multiple patents, currently serves as Professor of Practice in engineering at LUT University in Finland, and continues to build and innovate through his San Francisco workshop, M5 Industries.

We’re equally excited to welcome Dr. Isil Berkun, PhD as a featured speaker. Dr. Berkun is an AI engineer, educator, and founder of DigiFab AI. A former Staff AI Software Engineer at Intel, she now builds production-grade AI systems for enterprise teams and teaches AI and deep learning to over 380,000 learners through LinkedIn Learning and universities including Columbia and Portland State. As emergency management evolves alongside new technology, Dr. Berkun brings the practical, applied AI perspective our industry needs.
